Representative Malinowski Leads Fight To End Corruption In Washington

Today is the 10th anniversary of the disastrous Citizens United v. FEC Supreme Court Decision that opened the floodgates to unlimited spending in public elections. Since taking office in 2019 Congressman Malinowski has been a champion in the fight against corruption in Washington. Below is the transcript of remarks from the January 16th press conference announcing the End Corruption Caucus.

"I am incredibly proud to be here with my colleagues. I'm pissed off that we have to be here.

All of us are trying to do this, we're trying to do politics the right way. And we are all facing an election this year, against a machine that is going to be spending hundreds of millions of dollars in dark money, untraceable money.

There is no way we have of even knowing who is funding the campaigns that will be run against us. We don't even know if foreign interests are involved in running these campaigns, which is a reminder that our anti-corruption agenda is one in the same as our national security agenda in our country today.

The American people are angry, and this cuts across partisan lines. They are angry that our federal agencies are being captured by corporate America. They are angry that the leading politicians in this country are not releasing their tax returns. They are angry that foreign oligarchs can pay the retainer of the president's lawyer.

How can that happen in the United States in the 21st century? I understand, as others of my colleagues have said, that this is the reason why things don't get done here, that this is the reason why 95% of Americans can be for gun safety legislation and we can't seem to get it through the Senate.

The vast majority of Americans, including Donald Trump when he was running for president, believe that Medicare should be allowed to negotiate the price of prescription drugs, and yet we can't get that bill through the Senate.

So we are going to keep at this. We are going to pass legislation like H.R. 1 in this Congress, or in the Congress that we elect running against corruption."
